Discover Shakespeare programme
Your Tweens and Teens (and anyone who fancies it) can discover Shakespeare at the Soapbox Theatre to support them with their Shakespearean moments that they will encounter at school. Shakespeare is great-we think so anyway; however, it can sometimes be daunting studying the text without an introduction that captures the spirit of the story in an accessible way.
Often it is said that Shakespeare’s plays are boring and old fashioned with complex storylines. We dispel these myths, breaking down the language and the story with our two infamous Shakespearian characters, who use potatoes as extra characters and meld Shakespeare’s scripts into a humorous storyline. Chop and Block enchant young people into getting it and seeing the relevance in Shakespeare’s characters and plots with today.
Plays we have performed to date include; Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

On this particular occasion I took my daughter to a Halloween event, The Asylum Tour. The sheer amount of effort that had been put into this event was mind blowing. We were both scared witless which I think is testament to how well this event had been put together

What a delight! A wonderful, thoughtful, well scripted adaptation of a Shakespeare play, so funny, enthralled our 9,8 and 7 year olds and kept all the adults laughing too. This theatre company is small and so personable, they never fail to impress with their imaginative productions, enthusiasm and professional delivery. We’ve been attending their shows for 4 years now and have consistently been impressed. Highly recommend a visit

I took my two children (10 and 14) to Stiltskin’s reworking of Macbeth, and it was brilliant, accessible to all ages. Loved the Medieval dancing to edgy indie music

A word of warning!
Examiners are not privy to the brilliant potato performers we employ within these shows. Only those with genius brains, such as yourselves, will understand. Please do not reference the potatoes in your exams it will not be understood; it’s like trying to explain Diagon Alley to a Muggle!
